My Story
Writing fact-rooted fiction requires extensive research. I spend countless hours exploring history, archaeology, biographies, religion, philosophy, and emerging technologies. I don't write about difficult or dark things because I imagined them. I could never imagine many of the atrocities human beings have inflicted upon one another—old fears, inherited doctrines, systems of power, unquestioned obedience, and the silent agreement of people who were taught not to ask difficult questions. I write about them because they have existed throughout history, and still exist today. The purpose of historical fiction is not to invent monsters. It is to remind us that ordinary people have always been capable of extraordinary courage in confronting them.
I am drawn to thrillers that entertain and transport me into another world while pulling back the curtain on real history, hidden institutions, religious symbolism, secret societies, and the consequences of knowledge. If that is what I love to read, it is only natural that it is what I love to write. Historians tell us what happened. I want to tell you how it felt—to question what was taught, inherited, and what may never be investigated.
If my novels entertain you, challenge you, inspire you, or leave you asking questions long after the final page, then they have done exactly what they were meant to do.
